Project Rescue
Saving a $1M Quality Assurance Implementation
- contract rescued
- $1M
- to a working build
- 1 week
- to an ahead-of-schedule solution
- 2 weeks
When a major manufacturing client's quality assurance AI project fell months behind schedule and faced cancellation, our team was brought in to lead the recovery effort. The project aimed to use computer vision to detect assembly errors, but despite having five capable technical team members, they lacked coordination and a clear understanding of business priorities. Within just two weeks, the situation was transformed through individual interviews, creation of a comprehensive inventory of technical components, prioritization of customer requirements, and implementation of twice-daily coordination meetings. The result: a working build was delivered after one week and an ahead-of-schedule solution after two weeks, completely turning around client satisfaction without requiring any overtime from the existing team.
The key to success wasn't just technical expertise, but understanding how to bridge technical capabilities with business needs. Rather than pursuing a technically perfect solution, the team was guided to focus on the client's core KPIs by optimizing the system to minimize false positives while accepting some tradeoffs that aligned with the manufacturing context. By recommending portable, configurable hardware using commodity components and simpler algorithms, the solution created was one that floor managers could easily adapt to changing production requirements. This approach not only rescued the $1M contract but led to additional follow-on work, demonstrating how strategic technical leadership can deliver exceptional ROI by connecting technical solutions directly to business outcomes.
